M&T Custom Card FAQs

There is no fee to customize your card.
The M&T Custom Card service gives you flexibility to upgrade the design of your M&T Debit Card, M&T Credit Card, M&T Secured Credit Card, M&T Business Credit Card or M&T Business Debit Card to reflect what's most important to you. It's your card that you can design your way. You can upload a photo or choose an image from our gallery for your card background.
Any activated M&T Debit, M&T Credit Card, M&T Secured Credit Card, M&T Business Credit Card, M&T Business Debit Card, M&T Bills Debit Card or M&T Ravens Debit Card with linked M&T accounts that are open and in good standing, may be eligible for consideration.
NOTE: If you are customizing an M&T Bills Debit Card or M&T Ravens Debit Card, your replacement card will no longer feature the Bills or Ravens logos. Those logos and related images will be replaced with your custom image.
Some foreign addresses may not be eligible to use the service.
M&T cards that are not eligible for customization include, but are not limited to:

- M&T Business ATM Card
- Health Savings Account Card
You can upload a digital photo or choose one from our image gallery to showcase across the background of your card.
There are hundreds of images available in the image gallery, from colors and patterns to landscapes and destinations. Or choose from sports, animals, diversity or professional images. Customize to your interests and personality. NOTE: The Fan Zone category is not an available gallery for M&T Credit Cards.
M&T offers a wide variety of personal and business checking accounts to meet your individual or business needs. Opening your account is easy.

It's quick and easy to apply for an M&T Credit Card or request an M&T Debit Card. Choose from the following options.
You can apply for your M&T Visa® Credit Card in one of three ways:
- Through your Online Banking Account (Select "Apply for a Credit Card" on the Account Summary Page)
- By phone at 1-800-724-3222
- In person at any local M&T branch
If you have a personal checking account, there are two ways to request an M&T Debit Card:
- Visit your local M&T branch
- Call the M&T Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-3222
If you have a business checking account:
- Visit your local M&T branch
- Call the M&T Business Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-6070
Your M&T account number, card number, expiration date (for Credit Cards only, Debit Cards will have a new expiration date) and PIN will remain the same - the only thing that will be different is the look of your card. You can still use your card at millions of locations worldwide (anywhere Visa® credit or debit cards are accepted).
Please note that your expiration date and CVV code will both change when customizing your new M&T Debit Card. It is important that any recurring purchase and payments are updated to reflect these changes.
Cardholders who share access to the same checking account can customize one card without affecting the other cards.
M&T customer service representatives are available to assist you. Please call the number on the back of your card for assistance. If you have a personal M&T Debit Card, please call the M&T Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-2440. If you have an M&T Credit Card, please call the Credit Card Support Team at 1-866-279-0888. If you have an M&T Business Debit Card, please call the M&T Business Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-6070.
Your email address is collected so that we may provide you with a notification of the approval decision for your image. It will be used only for this one-time email and will not be stored as part of your account or customer information.
We will notify you via email within one to seven business days to let you know whether your image is approved, or if it does not meet the Image Guidelines and is rejected.
If your design doesn’t meet the Image Upload Guidelines, it will be rejected, and we will notify you via email. If you would like to try again with another image, please return to the M&T Custom Card Design Studio to upload a new image or choose one from our image gallery.
If the design you submit does not meet the Image Guidelines and is rejected, your current card design will not be altered, and no replacement card will be issued.

The M&T Custom Card Design Studio gives you flexibility to quickly and easily customize the design of your card to reflect what's most important to you. Simply upload a digital photo (or choose one from our image gallery), then crop, rotate and resize until you're happy with it.
Upon account validation, only you as the cardholder will have access to the M&T Custom Card Design Studio.
Yes, except on your M&T Credit Card. However, M&T branches are only equipped to order Custom Cards using the image gallery. If you want to design your card using a personal photo, you will need to find an alternate Internet source such as a friend or family member, your local library, Internet café, etc.
Yes, you have the opportunity to edit the photo again or choose a different photo at any time before you submit your design for approval.
To customize the design of your card, you can select an image from our image gallery or upload your own image such as a photo of your family, friends, pets, favorite scenery, place of business, etc. While all of the images in our image gallery are approved for use in the design of your card, personal images you upload must adhere to our Image Guidelines, which should help you choose an acceptable image. (M&T reserves the right to reject any image we believe violates our Image Guidelines.)
Yes, on an exception basis, company logos that appear to be owned by the business whose deposit account is linked to your card may be permitted. Additional information might be requested to verify that the business logo usage is acceptable.
Any picture you wish to upload to the design studio must be in digital format. JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), PNG, GIF, Bitmap (.bmp) or TIFF formats are acceptable. The minimum file size should be at least 50KB in size and at least 840 X 840 pixels. You cannot upload an image that is less than 840 pixels along its smallest side. The maximum file size cannot exceed 10 megabytes (MB).
How to find image properties:
- PC users can usually find file format, size and pixel dimensions by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Properties"
- Mac users can usually find pixel dimensions by clicking on the file and selecting "Get Info" (the method for finding this information will vary depending on your individual operating system) – see the Image Upload Guidelines for additional information
Choose a clear, sharply focused image, preferably taken at a high resolution [300 dots-per-inch (dpi) or greater]. You can also use photo editing software to retouch/enhance your photo prior to uploading it; however, it is not mandatory. See the Image Upload Guidelines for additional recommendations.
A digital photo is an image saved in an electronic format such as a JPEG on a CD (or other storage device) or on your mobile device or computer. If you have a printed photo and would like to use it on your card, stop by your local photo center to have your photo scanned and saved in an electronic format. The photo center may charge you for this service. See the Image Upload Guidelines for additional information.
This depends on the type of Internet connection that you have and the size of the file that you are uploading. The upload time could be a few minutes, so please be patient. If you have transferred like images to other types of web services from your computer, the transfer time should be similar. See the Image Upload Guidelines for additional information.
If at any time you lose connection with our site, you will need to start the entire design process over. We do not store any images that are in process if your connection is lost.

Access to your image is restricted to authorized personnel that support the mandatory review that occurs for each submitted design to gauge compliance with
Image Guidelines, for customer service, or to support the systems and processes associated with creating your Custom Card. For your convenience, we will keep your image on file until you submit a new image or deactivate your account, after which, your image will be destroyed.
Yes, the M&T Custom Card Design Studio allows you to crop, rotate or scale your image. Cropping removes unwanted portions of a photo. Rotation changes the orientation of a photo in 90-degree increments. Scaling resizes the image, larger or smaller.
Yes, you have the opportunity to edit the photo again or choose a different photo at any time before you submit your design for approval.
You can use photo editing software to retouch/enhance your photo prior to uploading it; however, certain disposable cameras, mobile phones and other picture-taking devices don’t produce high-quality, high-resolution images. As a result, you may not be able to alter the file to make it meet the Image Upload Guidelines, and you will then need to upload another image or choose one from our image gallery.
If the image is too big, the design studio provides you with tools that allow you to crop, rotate and resize your image to fit on your card to your satisfaction. If your image does not meet the minimum image size requirements as outlined in the Image Upload Guidelines, it will not upload to the design studio. If you're not satisfied with the image you upload, or if your image is too small to upload, you can select another image to upload or choose one from our image gallery.
After your design has been approved, you can expect to receive your new Custom Card in the mail within four to seven business days via the U.S. Postal Service. Your card will be shipped to the permanent address associated with your account.
Yes, your existing card will continue to work until your new Custom Card is received and activated. Your M&T account number, card number, expiration date (for Credit Cards only, Debit Cards will have a new expiration date) and PIN will remain the same. Please destroy your existing card once your replacement Custom Card is activated.
Please note that your expiration date and CVV code will both change when customizing your new M&T Debit Card. It is important that any recurring purchase and payments are updated to reflect these changes.
We do our best to ensure the Custom Cards we produce maintain the integrity of the image you approve. Due to differences in monitor displays, computer graphics capabilities, the size and quality of your image, as well as the production process, which includes some cropping around the entire card, the design you create and approve online may vary slightly from the actual card you receive. If you are not completely satisfied with your card, please contact us using the telephone number on the back of your card.
If you have a personal M&T Debit Card, please call the M&T Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-2440. If you have an M&T Credit Card, please call the Credit Card Support Team at 1-866-279-0888. If you have an M&T Business Debit Card, please call the M&T Business Telephone Banking Center at 1-800-724-6070.
Your request for a custom design will be processed using the expiration date that is currently in place for your account. Cards expire on the last day of the month displayed on your card. Prior to the start of your expiration month, a replacement card will be generated that uses the new expiration year. If you’ve ordered your Custom Card near the time of the automatic expiration reissue, you may get two cards in the mail. Depending on the timing, one of those cards may not utilize your current design. If this happens, simply activate the Custom Card with the updated expiration date and then destroy the other card.
You can quickly and easily request a replacement card within Online or Mobile Banking, by phone or by branch. Your new card will feature the same image as your most recent Custom Card.

- Log in to the M&T Mobile App, select Card Services from the Menu, and select Order a Replacement Card (personal banking customers)

If your Custom Card is lost or stolen, you should immediately report the incident:
- Log in to Online Banking and select Report a Lost or Stolen Card from the Services Menu
- Log in to the M&T Mobile App, select Card Services from the Menu, and select Report a Lost or Stolen Card
- Call 1-800-724-1552
- Visit your local branch
Your new card will feature the same image as your most recent Custom Card.
You can enjoy the freedom of updating your Custom Card image as often as you would like should your design preferences change. To get started, simply visit the M&T Custom Card Design Studio and go through the same design process you did with your current Custom Card.
If you no longer wish to have a Custom Card design and want to switch back to a standard card design, you can do so quickly and easily at no additional expense.

Your card will still work until it expires. However, after your card expires, you will receive a new debit card without the custom image and your card will be reissued with the standard M&T logo design.
