General Account Information
What if I have questions about my account(s)?

Did my account number(s) change?
Your account number may have changed when it transitioned to M&T systems. Here’s what you need to know:
Checking account numbers
Your account number should have remained the same for your checking account, unless we notified you otherwise.
Account number changes to other accounts
You should have received a new account number for the following:
- Savings
- Money Market
- Certificates of Deposit
- Loans and lines of credit
Your new account numbers were sent to you in a separate mailing prior to your accounts transitioning.
Will there be a change to the posting order of funds from cash and checks deposited to my account?
Yes, funds from cash and checks deposited to your account will be paid in a different order. For details, see page 52 in the Commercial Deposit Account Terms and Conditions (PDF).
Should I continue using my People’s United checks and deposit slips?
Yes. Continue using your existing People's United checks and deposit slips until your supply runs out.
Order M&T checks.
Once your check supply runs out, you can order M&T checks by calling Deluxe, M&T's check provider, at 1-800-839-9382 (Monday through Friday 8am–8pm and Saturday 9:00am–5:30pm ET) or order online at deluxe.com/shop.
Use new deposit slips.
You can:
- Use the generic slips at the branch
- Order new slips with your current check vendor using the updated routing number
- Order new slips online at deluxe.com/shop or call 1-800-839-9382 (Monday through Friday 8am–8pm and Saturday 9:00am–5:30pm ET)
How do I order M&T Checks?
Once your People’s United check supply runs out, you can order M&T checks by calling Deluxe, M&T's check provider, at 1-800-839-9382 (Monday through Friday 8am–8pm and Saturday 9am–5:30pm ET) or order online at deluxe.com/shop.
Has my Merchant Services account changed?
Nothing has changed with Merchant Services and you don’t need to do anything differently.
- Continue to use your existing merchant software and terminals
- Your login experience and credentials will remain the same
- Merchant proceeds will continue to be deposited as usual
- Continue to call Merchant Assist at 1-800-617-1723 for your customer service needs
Has my Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) coverage been affected?
- Accounts you opened at People’s United prior to the merger with M&T Bank will continue to be insured by the FDIC
- If you had deposit accounts with both M&T Bank and the People’s United division of M&T Bank prior to the merger, the FDIC will separately insure those deposit accounts for six months after the merger (on April 2, 2022)
- Any M&T Bank deposit account you had prior to the merger and new deposit accounts established after the merger, including those opened with the People’s United division of M&T Bank, will not be separately insured. They will be combined to determine applicable FDIC insurance limits. This is because the People’s United division of M&T Bank and M&T Bank are now the same FDIC-insured institution
- After six months, your former People’s United Bank deposits and your M&T Bank deposits will be combined for purposes of determining your appropriate level of FDIC deposit insurance coverage
Special Information for Certificates of Deposit (CDs):
- Any CD you have at People’s United Bank, N.A. prior to the merger (on April 2, 2022) is separately insured until its next maturity date after the six-month period following the merger
- If your former People’s United Bank CD automatically renews within six months of the merger, it will continue to be separately insured until its next maturity date The six-month transition period gives you the opportunity to consider how to maximize FDIC deposit insurance coverage for your accounts.

United Bank Credit Card Transition
What do I need to know when my United Bank Credit Card transitions on May 20, 2023?
- You were mailed an M&T Visa® Signature Credit Card at the beginning of May with a new card number, expiration date and 3-digit security code
- M&T credit card(s) were mailed individually to the business address associated with the account. If your account has more than one cardholder associated, you’ll receive separate envelopes for each card
- Follow the instructions on your new card to activate and set a PIN as soon as you receive it
- Rewards redemptions will temporarily pause from May 17 through May 20, 2023
- Begin using your new M&T Credit Card on May 20, 2023. Your United Bank Credit Card will no longer work after May 21, 2023
- Update any recurring transactions you’ve scheduled for after May 20, 2023 with the information for your new card to ensure services continue
- Enroll or log into M&T Online and Mobile Banking so you can manage your card easily, view and redeem your reward points
- Add your new card to your digital wallet — it will not automatically carry over
If your United Bank Credit Card account is closed or has been revoked, you will not receive a new credit card.
What are the key benefits and features of my M&T Business Rewards Credit Card?

What changes can I expect with my M&T Business Rewards Credit Card?
- Your credit card number will change. Please update any recurring transactions you’ve scheduled for after May 20, 2023 with the information for your new credit card
- You may receive a new payment due date. Check your new statement for more information
- Rewards points do not expire as long as you use your card to make a purchase once every 12 months
- Any previous card alerts or transaction controls will not carry over. With an M&T Business Rewards Credit Card, you can choose to receive alerts via email, text or app notification on account activity
- Cardholder spend limits as of April 24, 2023 will be automatically set-up on your new account, with the exception of cardholders who are designated as a Primary or Joint on the account. These cardholders will always have access to the full credit limit

What should I do if I haven’t received my new M&T Business Rewards Credit Card?
Keep an eye out in the mail for an envelope with a green stripe at the top. If you haven’t received your card by May 15, 2023, give us a call at 1-866-279-0888 to confirm we have the correct address for you.
Will my reward points from my United Bank Credit Card be transferred over to M&T?
If you have rewards points, your existing points balance will transfer to your new account, and any purchases made since your account last cycled will earn rewards points as well.
How do I view and redeem my rewards?
You can access your M&T Rewards Dashboard directly from M&T Online Banking for Business, no additional login ID is needed. Enroll or log into M&T Online and Mobile Banking to view and redeem your reward points.
You can also get information about your Rewards account and redeem points by calling the Rewards Customer Service Center at 1-866-579-2335.
Will my new Credit Card automatically be added to my M&T Online Banking profile?
Yes. If you already bank online with us, your new M&T Business Rewards Credit Card will automatically be added to your M&T Online Banking for Business and Mobile Banking profile.

Why does my credit card payment due date show 01/01/0001 in Online Banking for Business?
This is because your account is new on our system and has not cycled yet, therefore it does not have a payment due date yet. Once your account cycles and you actually have a payment due, your due date will be updated online.
Will my automatic payments to my credit card be converted over?
If you pay your card balance using automatic payment through any deposit account, your automatic payment will transition to your new M&T credit card account. Automatic payments can be set up for “previous statement minimum payment” or “previous statement total outstanding balance.” For more information refer to the Important Notice of Change in Terms for your United Bank Business Credit Card, mailed to you.
Will my e-statement election be converted?
No. You’ll need to re-enroll in e-statements for this Credit Card account within M&T Online Banking for Business.
How do I read my first statement?
Your first M&T Credit Card statement will include any transactions made since your last statement as well as your previous statement balance. Within the transactions section of your statement all purchases will be listed, with the oldest appearing on the top; as well as any payments made. Your previous statement balance will also appear in the transaction section and counted in your purchase balance.

This is only applicable to your first statement on your new M&T Credit Card, as we transition your information over. All subsequent statements will display transactions and payments in chronological order, with the previous statement balance appearing as the ‘Previous Balance’ in the Summary of Account Activity section.
How can I make a payment to my M&T Business Credit Card?

- at a branch
- via internal transfers through M&T Online Banking for Business, Mobile Banking or by calling 1-866-279-0888
- through automatic deduction from a checking or savings account

Account Access
Can I access my accounts in M&T Mobile and Online Banking for Business?
We've been able to transition mobile and online banking services for most customers to M&T Mobile and Online Banking for Business.
Follow the instructions below if you haven’t yet tried to log in or haven’t been able to successfully access your accounts online.
Step 1: Go to mtb.com/reset to get started.
- If you have previously logged in successfully, please ignore the steps below and login as you normally would at mtb.com/login
- Do not use the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app to log in for the first time
Step 2: Follow the prompts and enter the required information. You'll need:
- Your People's United Business User ID
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Your activated M&T Business Debit or Credit Card and PIN
- If you haven’t activated your M&T Business Debit or Credit Card, follow the instructions on the sticker on the front of your card
You may need help resetting your passcode. You'll need to contact an M&T Representative at 1-800-790-9130 if:
- You don’t know your People’s United User ID or
- You’re People’s United User ID has a special character (e.g.,! $ # & * etc.) or
- You don't have or are unable to activate your M&T Business Debit or Credit Card
Step 3: Once you receive confirmation on the screen that you have successfully reset your passcode, click the green "Log into Online Banking" button.
Step 4: Log into M&T Online Banking for Business by entering your People's United User ID and newly created passcode.
Step 5: After you have logged in, you should be able to verify your account settings and enroll in electronic statements and notices.
- Once you have successfully logged in and can see your accounts, you should log in directly at mtb.com/login or use the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app for all future visits
- You can download the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app from the App Store® for iPhone® or Google Play™ for Android™
There were some instances where we weren't able to transition your People’s United Online and Mobile Services to M&T Mobile of Online Banking for Business. You should've already been notified you if you are affected by this issue.
How do I reset my passcode?
If you have not yet logged into M&T Online Banking for Business for the first time or have tried to log in, but were unsuccessful:
Try resetting your passcode at mtb.com/reset. To reset your passcode, you’ll need:
- Your People’s United Online Banking Business User ID
- Your Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Your activated M&T Business Debit or Credit Card and PIN
- If you haven’t activated your M&T Business Debit or Credit Card, follow the instructions on the sticker on the front of your card
Once you receive confirmation on the screen that you've successfully reset your passcode, click the green "Log into Online Banking" button and use your People's United User ID and newly created passcode to log in.
You'll need to contact an M&T Representative at 1-800-790-9130 if:
- You don’t know your People’s United Business User ID or
- Your People’s United Business User ID has a special character (e.g.,! $ # & * etc.) or
- You don't have or are unable to activate your M&T Business Debit or Credit Card
If you have already logged into M&T Online Banking for Business:
Go to mtb.com/reset.
You'll be asked to enter your User ID and Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number.
Next you’ll need to verify your identity. You can either use your M&T Debit Card or ATM Card, your M&T Credit Card, your M&T Online Banking Security Questions, your M&T Mortgage Account or other verification method. It’s important to note:
- If you use your M&T Debit or ATM card, you will also need your PIN number
- If you use your M&T Credit Card, you will also need your 3-digit Security Code
- If you opt to answer your security questions, you will need to answer two correctly
- If you use your M&T Mortgage Account, you will need your account number
Once you’ve provided all the necessary information, you can change your passcode and use your User ID and newly created passcode to log into M&T Online Banking for Business.
Can I download the M&T Mobile Banking app?
We recommend that you first log in to M&T Online Banking for Business before downloading the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app.
Follow the instructions below if you haven’t yet tried to log in or haven’t been able to successfully access your accounts online.
Step 1: Go to mtb.com/reset to get started.
- If you have previously logged in successfully, please ignore the steps below and login as you normally would at mtb.com/login
- Do not use the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app to log in for the first time

Can I enroll in alerts for my business account?
If you have an M&T Business Credit Card, you can choose to receive alerts via email, text or app notification on account activity. Currently, business checking and savings accounts aren't eligible for M&T Alerts.
If I had business and personal accounts in one profile at People’s United, can I manage my account alerts in M&T Mobile and Online Banking for Business?
Currently, business checking and savings accounts aren't eligible for M&T Alerts. To manage Alerts for your personal accounts, you'll need to log into the M&T Mobile Banking App and tap “M&T Alerts” from the menu, or log into M&T Online Banking, our personal account experience, and go to M&T Bank Alerts in the Services menu.
Can I access Treasury Management Services through Online Banking for Business?
Treasury Center, which houses Treasury Management Services, is a separate system from M&T Online Banking for Business. Each service requires a separate login.
Services within Treasury Center include:
- Check Positive Pay
- Remote Check Deposit
- ACH
Services within M&T Online Banking for Business include:
- Mobile Deposit
- Bill Pay
- Direct Connect with Quicken®
How do I access the Treasury Center?
In order to access your Treasury Management services through Treasury Center please use the following process:
- Go to https://treasurycenter.mtb.com/auth/ to log in with your Treasury Center User ID and temporary password from the September 13 emails
- You will then be prompted to change your password
- Once you log into Treasury Center, you can add sub-users to the Company profile and those sub-users can be permitted to access the services as well

Online Account Transaction History
Can I see my People’s United transaction history in the M&T Mobile Banking for Business app?
- No. People’s United transaction history is not available in the M&T mobile app
- To see your People’s United transaction history please access M&T Online Banking for Business
Statements and Notices
When and how will I receive my business checking, savings, and money market statements? What about analysis statements?
Checking, savings and money market accounts
You should have received two statements for the month of September:
- A final People's United statement covering the period from your last statement date to the date your accounts moved to M&T systems
- A statement from M&T covering the period from the time your accounts moved to M&T systems to your next regular statement date
Future statements will be sent on approximately the same schedule as they are today and by the same delivery method you have currently.
Analysis statements
Analysis statements will be sent via the same delivery method you have currently selected at People's United. Paper account analysis statements will be sent separately, not combined with checking statements.
When will I receive business loan and line of credit account statements from M&T?
Now that your accounts have transitioned from People’s United, you’ll start receiving M&T statements with updated payment instructions.
When will I receive Commercial and Business credit card account statements?
- Your first M&T statement will have any transactions from the date of your last People's United statement through transition weekend until your next cycle date with M&T
- Commercial Card only: Now that your accounts have transitioned, your Commercial Card statements should be available in CentreSuite® for both cardholders and administrators. You should have already received more information about using CentreSuite® prior to your accounts transitioning
If I had business and personal accounts in one profile at People’s United, can I view my eStatements in M&T Online Banking for Business?
You'll be able to view eStatements for your business accounts, beginning with the first account statement or notice after September 6, 2022, in M&T Online Banking for Business. To view eStatements for your personal accounts, you'll need to log in to M&T Online Banking, our personal account experience, then go to "View Statements and Notices" from the Accounts menu.
Have my People's United delivery preferences for online statements and notices migrated to my M&T Online Banking for Business profile?
- We've been able to migrate several digital services, including statement delivery settings, to M&T Online Banking for Business
- Please log into M&T Online Banking for Business and verify your delivery preferences
- If you or another account holder didn't log in prior to Thursday, October 6, 2022, you'll begin to receive paper statements and notices on or after Thursday, October 6, 2022. You can update your statement delivery settings at any time by visiting the Settings and Support tab in M&T Online Banking for Business
Can I access my People’s United historical statements online?
No. People’s United online statements and documents aren't viewable through M&T Online Banking for Business.
However, you can request paper copies of historical electronic statements for current or closed accounts for a fee as disclosed in the Commercial Deposit Account Fee Schedule, now that your accounts have transitioned, by calling us at 1-800-724-6070 or visiting a branch.
Pay Bills
What do I need to know about my business loan and credit card payments?
Your payments should have continued as scheduled unless you’ve been notified otherwise.
Commercial credit card
Your prior payment arrangement to your People’s United Commercial Card balance should have transferred over to your new M&T Visa® Commercial Card Program.
You should have received a separate communication about the transition of your card to M&T with full details.
Business credit card
Your prior payment arrangement to your People’s United Business Card balance should have transferred over to your new M&T Visa® Business Credit Card account.
You should’ve received a separate communication about the transition of your card to M&T with full details.
Loan payments
If you made loan payments with automatic deductions, this should have continued without interruption.
Note: We will only attempt to deduct a loan payment once each month from your account.
What happened to the eBills service?
eBills (service for receiving bills electronically) has not been supported since August 5, 2022.
How do I pay my credit cards, loans and other bills online?
You can schedule an internal transfer from your M&T checking or savings accounts to make your M&T credit card and M&T loan payments.
Please note: When scheduling a bill payment using M&T Bill Pay, your instructions will define the Delivery Date of the payment. For electronic bill payments, funds will be withdrawn two business days prior to the Delivery Date. For paper bill payments, funds will be withdrawn four business days prior to the Delivery Date.
Were my People’s United bill payments migrated to my M&T Mobile and Online Banking for Business profile?
- We were able to migrate several digital services, including bill payments, to M&T Mobile and Online Banking for Business, but some exceptions may apply. For more information, please visit the Notice of Changes to Digital Services for Business Accounts (PDF)
- If you haven't already, please log into M&T Mobile and Online Banking for Business and verify your payments and payees
What are my mobile check deposit dollar limits?
If you are enrolled in Mobile Check Deposit, you can find your current limit by logging into the M&T Mobile Banking App or by selecting Mobile Deposit under the Services menu within M&T Online Banking for Business.
Wire Transfers and ACH Transactions
Has anything changed with how I receive wire transfers?
Checking accounts
You should continue receiving incoming wire transfers using the same routing and transfer information you used at People’s United (unless you’ve been notified your account number is changing).
Savings and money market accounts
If you haven’t already, please notify the sender of your new account number and M&T's routing number. Any wires directed to the old account number will be returned to the sender and will need to be reinitiated.
New routing information.
- Domestic: Provide M&T Bank's routing number 022000046, your account number and your account title
- International: Provide SWIFT address MANTUS33, your account number and account title. M&T Bank CHIPS UID for International USD wires is: 0555
How do I originate a wire transfer at M&T?
You can initiate an outgoing wire payment by visiting any branch or by using our digital services (if you're enrolled).
Has anything changed with how I receive ACH transactions?
You should continue using the same account number and routing number that you used at People’s United (unless you’ve been notified your account number is changing).
Your elections for incoming ACH transactions were set up on M&T’s ACH processing system to mirror the way they were set up on People’s United systems (for example, ACH blocks, ACH stop payments).
How do I originate ACH transactions at M&T?
Individual ACH transactions from your checking or savings account set up prior to the account transition should have been processed. You should have re-approved recurring ACH transactions set up prior to the transition. Additional details were sent in a separate Treasury Management services communication.
Connect to Quicken®/Quickbooks®
I'm having trouble connecting M&T Direct Connect through Quicken® or Quickbooks®, how do I get help?
Special characters (e.g., !, $, #, &, *, etc.) in your M&T Online Banking User ID or Passcode are not allowed when connecting to M&T Bank Direct Connect through Quicken® or Quickbooks®. If you have a special character in your M&T Online Banking User ID or Passcode, please log into M&T Online Banking or M&T Online Banking for Business to remove any special characters from your User ID or Passcode, then try to connect to M&T Bank Direct Connect through Quicken® or Quickbooks®.
If you don't have any special characters in your M&T Online Banking User ID or Passcode and are unable to connect to M&T Bank Direct Connect, please contact the M&T Bank Online Support team at 1-866-791-0663 for assistance.
If I use Web Connect, Express Web Connect, or Direct Connect at People’s United, how do I connect to Quicken® / QuickBooks® at M&T?
Below are the steps you’ll need to take to connect your Quicken® or QuickBooks® accounts with M&T Direct Connect:
- Log into to M&T Online Banking for Business or enroll in M&T Online Banking for Business if you didn't use People’s United Online or Mobile Banking
- After logging into M&T Online Banking, enroll in Direct Connect – go to the Services tab and click View All Services. Under Direct Connect for Intuit Quicken® Software, click Enroll Now
- Switch the Connection from People’s United to M&T by opening the guide, applicable to the product you currently use, and the following the conversion steps within your Quicken®/QuickBooks® software.

Quicken® - Direct Connect - mtb.com/quickenconversion
Once you've completed the steps, you can verify your download transactions to ensure no transactions were duplicated or missed on the register.
Can I use QuickBooks® Online at M&T?
Yes, you'll be able to use QuickBooks® Online with your M&T account. Conversion steps can be found at www3.mtb.com/quickbooksconversion.
I like to upload the files manually through Web Connect (.QFX/.QBO). Does M&T support these file exports for my transaction data?
M&T does not offer file formats that support Web Connect (.QFX/.QBO) at this time. You do have the ability to convert to M&T Direct Connect at no extra charge. Direct Connect provides you with the same interface and allows for automatic updates (no manual updates) of financial data and access to Bill Pay and transfers. You should not experience any impact to your data through the transition.

What is the difference between Direct Connect, Web Connect and Express Web Connect?
Direct Connect: QuickBooks® & Desktop Quicken®
Direct Connect is one of two automatic update options that communicates through a direct link with M&T. You do not need to log in directly to M&T Online Banking site to use this connectivity type. Once connected, updates will occur when you initiate a new download request from within the product. Direct Connect is the only two-way communication connectivity type, so additional services such as Bill Pay, and in-product transfers are supported.
Direct Connect is supported by M&T Bank.
2) Web Connect: QuickBooks® Desktop, QuickBooks® Online & Quicken®
Web Connect is the connectivity type that begins in M&T Online Banking. You can download a .qbo (QuickBooks®) or .qfx (Quicken®) file and import that file into QuickBooks® or Quicken®. This process does not require credentials to be entered in Quicken® or QuickBooks® since the file download occurs within M&T Online Banking for Business.
The file formats described are currently not available for download through M&T Online Banking for Business. You used Web Connect at People's United, you can convert to Direct Connect as an alternative.
3) Express Web Connect: QuickBooks® Online, Quicken® & Mint
Express Web Connect is the second of two automatic update options. Unlike Direct Connect which communicates through a direct link with M&T, Express Web Connect gathers your data through your log-in credentials to retrieve transactions from M&T Online Banking.
Express Web Connect is an option for you, but M&T Bank doesn't offer customer support for QuickBooks® Online. We ask that you reach out to Intuit for any questions/issues.
I’m having trouble finding M&T Bank in Quicken®, how can I fix this?
Please follow the instructions on Intuit's Quicken® Support page to refresh the Financial Institutions Directory.
I've connected my People’s United accounts through Mint.com in the past, will this be available through M&T?
Yes, your new M&T accounts will be available through mint.com.
Mint.com data is stored on Intuit cloud servers. Data is updated every time you log in and can't be restored to a previous point in time.
