Understanding Your Account FAQs

Learn more about your M&T credit card account.

An authorized user is someone who's been added to a credit card account by the card's owner, also known as the primary cardholder. The authorized user can make purchases with the credit card as if it were their own. However, the responsibility to pay any charges remains with the primary cardholder.

A balance transfer moves a balance from a credit card or loan to another credit card. Transferring balances with a higher annual percentage rate (APR) to a card with a lower APR can save you money on the interest you’ll pay. Balance transfers can also simplify bills by consolidating several balances with different creditors onto one card with one payment.

Cash advances can be completed at any ATM with the Visa logo using your credit card and PIN, or by web through online banking as a web transfer.

You can set up a balance transfer in the “Credit Card Balance Transfer” page in your M&T Online Banking platform. Alternatively, you may visit a branch or call 1-866-279-0888 to set up a balance transfer.

You can file a dispute by calling 1-866-279-0888 or by visiting your local branch

You will receive your new Credit Card in the mail within 5-7 business days after you are approved.
