Commercial Development Program (CDP)

The Commercial Development Program (CDP) is M&T Bank’s is a training program for high performing graduates who seek a challenging and rewarding career in the Commercial Banking Industry.

 

What You Can Expect

  • Become proficient in the fundamentals of the banking industry and apply that knowledge to real world situations

  • Analyze financial data; determine credit worthiness; structure credit products and present your recommendations to senior management

  • Learn quantitative and qualitative analysis methods to identify changes in business performance that can impact risk ratings

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure our customers have the products/services they need to build their businesses and experience M&T’s commitment to making a difference in people’s lives

  • Upon successful completion of training, participants will be placed into either an Underwriting or Portfolio Management role

Trainees will learn

  • Fundamental credit skills
  • Gain an understanding of how the Bank operates
  • Have opportunities to interact with executive management, network, participate in professional development and mentoring. 

In addition, trainees will develop critical thinking skills through examining industry and market trends, evaluating credit risks, and analyzing client financial performance. As part of a local team, participants will become familiar with the community banking strategy and may be introduced to M&T clients. Upon graduation, participants will be placed into either an Underwriting or Portfolio Management role, determined by business need and participant interest.​

Program Qualifications:

  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA

  • Bachelor’s degree (or master’s degree) candidate

  • Knowledge of business management/administration is preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated with demonstrated leadership abilities

  • Work visa sponsorship not offered for this role

  • Accounting or Finance majors preferred
