Our credit card fraud prevention measures start with a three-digit Security Code on the back of your card that helps to verify that you’re in possession of your card in the case of internet or phone transactions.
Visa Secure further confirms your identity when you’re shopping online at participating merchants.
Your card’s contactless and chip technologies encrypt your information into a unique code for more protection.

M&T can temporarily freeze your card to prevent transactions if it is lost or misplaced. The Visa Zero Liability Policy{{d195*}} also provides protection against unathorized use if it is stolen.
Protect your pin
Never write your PIN on your card or anywhere near your card. And always shield your card number when performing a transaction in a public place so that it can’t be copied or photographed.
Limit account access
Never lend your debit or credit card to anyone. If you want to allow access to your account, consider opening a joint checking or savings account or add them as an authorized user to your credit card.
Monitor account activity
Review your monthly statements to find any unfamiliar transactions. And enroll in eStatements to keep your sensitive account information out of the mail.
