M&T Quicken® Conversion
Step by step instructions to help you transition your Quicken® account.
As you start preparing to use M&T digital services, you will need to modify your Quicken® settings to ensure the smooth transition of your data.
Please reference the dates next to each task as this information is time sensitive and keep in mind that beginning Saturday, September 3, 2022, M&T Mobile and Online services will be unavailable for 36 hours as we complete our systems integration.
To complete these instructions, you will need your login credentials for online banking and/or Direct Connect. For any questions, please visit M&T Online & Mobile Banking FAQs.
You should perform the following instructions exactly as described and, in the order, presented. If you do not, your online banking connectivity may stop functioning properly.
This conversion should take 15-30 minutes. Please select the instruction below that best relates to your needs for further instructions.
Quicken® Desktop Windows Direct Connect and Express Web Connect
Before Disconnecting and Converting:
1. Back up your Quicken® Windows Data File
a. Go to File > Backup and Restore > Backup Quicken® File
b. Download the latest Quicken Update. Go to Help > Check for Updates
2. Accept all new transactions into the appropriate registers
On or After Tuesday, September 6:
1. Deactivate online banking connection for accounts connected to the People’s United
a. Choose Tools > Account List
b. Click Edit on the account to deactivate
c. In Account Details, click Online Services
d. Click Deactivate. Follow prompts to confirm deactivation
e. Click General tab
f. Delete People’s United Bank and Account Number information. Click OK to close window
g. Repeat steps for any additional accounts that apply
2. Log in to M&T Online or Mobile Banking and Enroll in M&T Direct Connect
a. Before proceeding with the following steps, be sure you have logged into M&T Online or Mobile Banking directly through mtb.com or the M&T Bank app. Visit mtb.com/peoplespersonallogin for more details
Note: If you were not previously enrolled in Online Banking at People’s United, enroll in M&T Online Banking beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2022
i. To continue your access to Quicken/QuickBooks, you will need to first enroll in M&T Online Banking
ii. Go to mtb.com/enroll
iii. Select your account type
iv. Use your M&T Bank account or card information to proceed through the brief process
b. Enroll in M&T Direct Connect
i. After logging in to M&T Online Banking:
ii. Go to the Services tab
iii. Click “View All Services”
iv. Click” Enroll Now” under Direct Connect for Inuit Quicken® Software
Note: If you were not previously enrolled in Online Banking at People’s United, please call 1-800-414-9435 to enroll in M&T Direct Connect and receive a courtesy waiver of the $9.95 per month service fee.
Your prior usage at People’s United and decision to enroll in M&T Direct Connect qualifies you for a courtesy waiver of this monthly service fee. This waiver will remain ongoing for the duration of your service unless we notify you otherwise.
Fees are subject to change. The M&T representative can apply this waiver to your M&T Online Banking account at the time of your enrollment in M&T Direct Connect.
3. Reconnect the online banking connection for your accounts
a. Choose Tools > Account List
b. Click Edit on the account you want to activate
c. In Account Details, click Online Services and then choose Set up Now
d. Type in M&T Bank Direct Connect in the search field and click Next
e. Enter your M&T Bank Online Banking credentials
Note: The Quicken® Direct Connect credentials you used prior to the conversion will not work.
f. Ensure you associate the accounts to the appropriate accounts already listed in Quicken. Select Link to existing account and select the matching accounts in the drop-down menu.
Important: Do NOT choose “Create a new account” unless you intend to add a new account to Quicken. If you are presented with accounts, you do not want to track in this data file, chose Ignore – Don’t Download into Quicken or click Cancel.
g. After all accounts have been matched, click Next and then Done.
Quicken® Desktop Windows Web Connect
Great news – Customers who utilized Web Connect at People’s United Bank will be able to convert to Direct Connect at M&T at no extra charge! Direct Connect will provide you with the same interface and will allow for automatic updates (no manual updates) of financial data and access to Bill Pay and transfers. You should not experience any impact to your data through the transition.
We are working on making Web Connect available through Online Banking but in the meantime, you can utilize Direct Connect as an improved alternative.
Before Disconnecting and Converting:
1. Backup Quicken® Windows Data File and Update
a. Choose File > Backup and Restore > Backup Quicken® File
b. Accept all new transactions into the appropriate registers
c. Repeat this step for each account you need to update
d. Download the latest Quicken Update. Choose Help > Check for Updates
On or After Tuesday, September 6:

h. Repeat steps for any additional accounts
2. Log in to M&T Online or Mobile Banking and Enroll in M&T Direct Connect

3. Connect the online banking connection for your accounts
a. Choose Tools > Account List
b. Click Edit on the account you want to activate
c. In Account Details, click Online Services and then choose Set up Now
d. Type in M&T Bank Direct Connect in the search field and click Next
e. Enter your M&T Bank Online Banking credentials
Note: The Quicken Direct Connect credentials you used prior to the conversion will not work.
f. Ensure you associate the accounts to the appropriate accounts already listed in Quicken® . Select Link to existing account and select the matching accounts in the drop-down menu.
Important: Do NOT choose “Create a new account” unless you intend to add a new account to Quicken. If you are presented with accounts, you do not want to track in this data file, chose Ignore – Don’t Download into Quicken® or click Cancel.
g. After all accounts have been matched, click Next and then Done
Quicken® Desktop Windows Bill Pay (Only required if you use Direct Connect in Quicken® to initiate Bill Payments)
Only complete these tasks if you currently initiate Bill Payments from within Quicken Windows. Please note, Bill Pay services are only allowed for Checking Accounts.
Important: These tasks must be completed to avoid possible duplicate payments.
On or Before Friday, September 2 prior to 5:00 p.m. ET:
Cancel Existing Bill Payments
1. Choose Tools > Online Center
2. Choose People’s United Bank from the Financial Institution drop-down list
3. On the Payments tab, choose an account from which a payment is scheduled in the future
4. In the payments status list, you will cancel payments for each payee with a status that is
scheduled for delivery on or after Friday, September 2. To do this, select the first payee and click Cancel Payment
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 for all payments that are scheduled for delivery after Friday, September 2
6. On the toolbar, click Repeating
7. Choose a payment instruction and click Delete. Click Delete again in the confirmation window
8. Repeat step 7 for each repeating payment you have with People’s United
On or After Tuesday, September 6:
Re-create Your Bill Payments
If you need help re-creating payments, choose Help > Quicken® Help. Search for Create an Online Payment and follow the instructions to create and transmit an online payment
Quicken® Desktop Mac Direct Connect and Quicken® Connect
Before Disconnecting and Converting:
1. Back up your Quicken® Mac Data File and Update the application
a. Choose File > Save a Backup
b. Download the latest Quicken Update. Choose Quicken® > Check for Updates

1. Log in to M&T Online or Mobile Banking and Enroll in M&T Direct Connect

2. Activate the online banking connect for your M&T Bank account(s).
a. Choose Accounts > Settings
b. Select Set up transaction download
c. Enter M&T Bank in the search field, select M&T Bank Direct Connect and click Continue
d. Enter your M&T Bank Online Banking credentials
Note: The Quicken® Direct Connect credentials you used prior to the conversion will not work.
e. In the “Accounts Found” screen, ensure you associate each new account to the appropriate account already listed in Quicken® . Under Action, choose Link to pick your existing account.
Important: Do NOT select “ADD” in the Action column unless you intend to add a new account to Quicken® .
f. Click Finish
Quicken® Desktop Mac Web Connect
Great news – Customers who utilized Web Connect at People’s United Bank will be able to convert to Direct Connect at M&T at no extra charge! 2. Activate the online banking connect for your M&T Bank account(s).
a. Choose Accounts > Settings

e. In the “Accounts Found” screen, ensure you associate each new account to the appropriate account already listed in Quicken® . Under Action, choose Link to pick your existing account.

f. Click Finish
Quicken® Desktop Mac Bill Pay (Only required if you use Direct Connect in Quicken® to initiate Bill Payments)
Only complete these tasks if you currently initiate Bill Payments from within Quicken® Mac.
Important: These tasks must be completed to avoid possible duplicate payments.
On or Before Friday, September 2 prior to 5:00 p.m. ET:
Cancel Existing Bill Payments
1. Highlight a Bill Payment transaction on the account register
2. While on the account register, choose File > Print to save your list of pending payments. You can use this when you re-create the bill payments and send these payments again
3. Click Edit at the bottom of the account register window
4. Click Edit Details below the highlighted transaction
5. Click the Online Payment tab and choose Cancel Payment
6. Repeat these steps for each outstanding Bill Payment you have scheduled with People’s United
On or After Tuesday, September 6:
Re-create Your Bill Payments
If you need help re-creating payments, choose Help and search for Adding online Bill Pay Transactions. Follow the instructions to create and transmit an online payment.
