Protecting your peace of mind

FRAUD DETECTION

Proactively keep your account safe with data monitoring technologies that recognize and alert you of suspicious activity. Make sure you are protected from fraud. A M&T Relationship Manager is available via video, phone or in person.

Enhanced fraud monitoring and detection

M&T Bank employs enhanced technologies to provide the best protection for our customers. We continuously monitor accounts and cardholder activity and use data mining for fraud detection and prevention.

Customers who opt into the free M&T Alerts service have the additional fraud monitoring advantage of being informed immediately if unusual account activity occurs. We’ll send you an email or text if we detect suspicious activity, your PIN number changes, an online or phone transaction occurs or if a transaction is declined. We can then work together to identify potential fraud. The faster the reaction, the better our chances of stopping further damage and of recovering any losses.

Stopping the increasingly sophisticated attacks of cybercriminals is a team effort. And that means your active participation in payment fraud detection.

Pay attention

Regularly review your accounts. Be on the lookout for any suspicious activity. Immediately report anything unusual.

Guard your digits

Protect your card and PIN numbers. Never loan out your debit or credit cards. And don’t allow others to see your card numbers, PIN numbers or passwords.

Don't click that

Never click a link or attachment that you weren't expecting. By clicking hyperlinks or opening attachments in a fraudulant message, you could unknowingly share critical personal information.

Beware of texts

Cyber criminals use texts to fraudulently pose as a legitimate business, like your bank. Unless you have signed up to receive M&T Alerts we will not send you a text message.
